Who’s there?

Tesla’s Cybertruck!

Yes, you read it right! In a world where the future comes faster than ever, Elon Musk's Cybertruck delivery extravaganza has stolen the automotive spotlight. It was a stage where the extraordinary met the unexpected, with VIP guests, including Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian and venture capitalist Phillip Sarofim, present at the unveiling of Tesla's much-anticipated Cybertruck.

So, what really is the Cybertruck?

  • Well, the Cybertruck, Musk's brainchild teased six years ago, has finally materialized. The base model, starting at $60,990, won't hit the roads until 2025, leaving EV (electric vehicle) enthusiasts anticipating over the details of the enigmatic vehicle.

  • The all-wheel-drive version flaunts a 341-mile range and a price tag starting at $79,990, while the Cyberbeast roars with an 845-horsepower engine, racing from 0 to 60 in 2.6 seconds, demanding a cool $99,990. Both boast an 11,000-pound towing capacity, with tantalizing hints of a range extender that could push these limits even further.

Now, let’s see how optimistic Musk is about Cybertruck:

  • Amidst the electric fervor, Musk's showmanship took center stage in Austin, Texas, following his dazzling appearance at the DealBook Summit in New York. Not to mention in the earlier event Musk boasted, “It will be the biggest product launch of anything by far on Earth this year.”

  • His claims about the Cybertruck being better than an ordinary truck or the sports car echoed in the dimly lit headquarters, emphasizing the bulletproof body, 'rock-proof' windows and the promise of reshaping the roads.

  • According to Musk, “What we have here is a better truck than a truck, while also being a better sports car than a sports car in the same package.”

  • However, notably its absence were direct references to pricing and battery ranges, with Tesla's website revealing a base model priced 50% higher than initially envisaged. Musk, nevertheless, paraded the production Cybertrucks, delighting customers who drove off into the night with their futuristic beasts.

However, amidst the fanfare, Musk's cautious tone in an October earnings call hinted at the formidable challenges ahead. Musk has said, “There will be enormous challenges in reaching volume production with the Cybertruck, and then in making the Cybertruck cashflow positive.”  As competitors like Ford, General Motors and Rivian venture into the electric pickup realm, Tesla's Cybertruck, unveiled in 2019, finally commenced early production in July this year.

Rivian, in a competitive move, launched leasing options for its R1T electric pickup, adding another dynamic player to the growing market. However, the electric pickup domain's growth hasn't matched initial expectations since Cybertruck’s grand debut, with some startups facing struggles while established automakers rethink their EV strategies.

Now, amidst the razzmatazz, Tesla's stock dipped slightly post-event, signaling a negative market response to Cybertruck’s grand reveal. Nevertheless, the Cybertruck spectacle has sparked curiosity, setting the stage for an electrifying showdown in the evolving landscape of automotive innovation.
Do you think Musk’s much anticipated Cybertruck will fuel EV adoption? Or is the Cybertruck just a marketing gimmick by Tesla?
