As businesses look to enhance their processes and workflows, they find themselves investing heavily in process mining techniques and technology.

For some, this includes setting up excellence centers, while others opt for strategic partnerships.

Ahead of this, some also indulge in both styles.

Such is the case with BMW Group and Celonis, a pioneer and global market leader in process mining, who have come up with an announcement aimed at long-term process enhancement efforts.

So, what did both companies say and how will it help them? Let’s explore!

What Did Both Companies Announce?

  • In a press release published on Celonis’ website, the company announced that it had significantly expanded its strategic partnership with BMW Group “to continuously optimize BMW's market-defining processes designed to increase its efficiency, productivity and sustainability.”

  • This includes an agreement to cooperate closely for further development of future process mining innovations along with extended use of Celonis’ Process Intelligence platform, which leverages industry-leading process mining technology and AI to build a living digital twin of end-to-end processes.

  • BMW began using process mining over eight years ago and even established its dedicated Process Mining Center of Excellence (CoE), which blends its process mining expertise with its IT department to create new innovative solutions.

  • Its previously established partnership with Celonis further enhances this.

  • Now the BMW Group plans to use Celonis' process mining technology to accelerate its Group-wide digitalization initiative, as it attempts to make the technology available to all its employees. The idea is for each employee to identify and eliminate inefficiencies.

  • The strengthened partnership to enhance process mining and process intelligence sets a standard not only for the automotive industry but across all organizations.

  • As per the release, “The companies have a long-standing relationship, showcased by the BMW Groups pioneering use of Celonis's recently announced Process Intelligence Graph and the development of AI-based innovations.”

  • As per the release, the collaboration will focus on “continuous data-based optimization of Group-wide processes to increase efficiency, productivity and sustainability.”

  • BMW Group will also use Celonis’ Process Intelligence Graph for cross-process optimization.

  • Ahead of improving the user experience of the platform, the two will closely collaborate to develop innovative process intelligence solutions and further software development. This includes cross-company process optimization and automation, as well as mapping customer journeys.

  • The two will also collaborate on the integration of new AI technologies to boost operational transparency and accountability for all employees involved to see relevant information in production or logistics.

What Did Stakeholders Say?

  • Alexander Buresch, CIO of the BMW Group, said, “The BMW Group aims to be a pioneer in the quality and efficiency of corporate processes. This goal applies especially during our current transformation, the largest in the history of the BMW Group, towards electromobility, digitalization and circularity.”

  • [Contd.] “Continuous analysis and optimization of our end-to-end processes with Celonis is a decisive factor in increasing productivity, minimizing resource consumption and making supply chains more resilient.”

  • [Contd.] “The software’s ease of use, thanks to the integration of AI models, opens up new opportunities for us to make process mining available to a large number of users throughout the company and thus utilize the potential of the technology more comprehensively than ever before."

  • Bastian Nominacher, Co-founder and Co-CEO of Celonis, said, “Our long-standing collaboration with the BMW Group is a true success story, and we are delighted by the even stronger strategic cooperation that we are announcing today.”

  • [Contd.] “BMW is known as a trailblazer in the use of new technologies: the company has been using process mining since 2016 and is also using our recently introduced Process Intelligence Graph to gain a holistic overview of their entire supply chain - from vehicle development to customer delivery and subsequent service.

  • [Contd.] “Our platform offers companies like the BMW Group unprecedented process intelligence and thus a central decision-making tool to take the right measures, quickly create added value and become more efficient overall."
