We bet you’re already aware about AI’s massive impact on, well, everything around us. However, have you ever wondered how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is changing the way we protect our health?

You may be imagining lengthy paperwork processes and complex terms in policies - but that’s all about to change with an AI-driven revolution!

This transition is especially important in emerging nations, where economic growth and evolving consumer expectations are opening new avenues for healthcare innovation. Research by Precedence says that the global AI market for insurance is expected to reach $141.44 billion by 2034 from a meager $8.13 billion in 2024.

You see, the future of insurance is not only digital but intelligent.

Nowhere is this transition more visible than in China, where rising affluence and changing healthcare needs are driving up demand for insurance products. AI-powered solutions are bridging the gap, increasing efficiency, and accessibility, and taking customization to new heights. So, what’s making this possible?

Well, Ant Insurance, a part of the Ant Group—owners of the world's largest mobile payment platform, Alipay—are leading the charge. They are using AI to transform health insurance services for Chinese consumers and insurance partners in a country that will have 400+ million citizens, or about 30% of the population, over the age of 60 by 2035.

By using AI-powered tools, Ant Insurance is making a more inclusive, intuitive, and ideal insurance platform for individuals, while bringing smarter, AI-driven insurance processing for claims.

In fact, Ant Insurance processed over 7.25 million insurance claims in 2024, a 55% increase from the previous year, leading to a total payout of RMB 9.2 billion ($1.3 billion). This major development is a result of both rising demand for digitized health insurance and the need for AI-driven features to expedite the insurance claims process.

China’s National Health Commission says that its aging population requires faster and more seamless healthcare technologies, especially when it comes to processing insurance claims. Plus, commercial health insurance is essential to the public healthcare system, with the rising aging population.
To meet this demand, insurers in China are using digital technologies to improve client experience, expand choices for coverage, and streamline claims processing.

Ant Insurance is at the forefront, incorporating advanced AI technologies into its insurance platform to provide customers with a more intuitive and transparent experience. From product selection and planning to administration and claims, let’s take a look at the key AI-powered features:

GoldenChoice: Smart Policy Recommendations

Given the variety of insurance policies available, choosing the right one might be difficult. To address this, Ant Insurance leverages GoldenChoice, which uses the Ant Insurance Multi-factor Model (AIMM) to evaluate and propose the best insurance products for consumers. GoldenChoice ensures that consumers make informed judgments by looking at a variety of aspects such as health history, lifestyle, and financial status.

AI-Powered Personalized Planning

One of the most typical errors in insurance selection is overbuying or underinsuring. EasyPick, an AI-powered insurance planner, allows consumers to create customized insurance policies based on their particular needs. EasyPick uses machine learning algorithms to reduce the chance of customers picking less-than-ideal insurance plans while boosting cost-effectiveness and financial stability.

EasyClaims: Streamlining The Claims Process

Claim processing can often be a time-consuming and complicated process, but Ant Insurance greatly simplified this with its EasyClaims AI solution. In 2024, AI tools managed 96% of the 1.62 million claims analysis requests across 85 health insurance products. EasyClaims has substantially lowered processing times by automating claim verification and fraud detection, leading to quicker payouts and increased efficiency for both insurers and policyholders.

Ant Bridge: Enhancing Customer Support

Ant Insurance launched Ant Bridge in September 2024, an open-source AI platform designed to help insurers strengthen interaction with clients. Ant Bridge uses AI models and financial intelligence to help insurers attend to customer inquiries in real time. This technology enhances service quality, improves issue resolution, and increases efficiency in operations, making insurance more readily accessible and proactive.

Haoyibao: A Game-Changer In Health Insurance

Ant Insurance's dedication to innovation includes product development. In 2018, the company introduced Haoyibao, a flagship health insurance solution co-developed with major Chinese insurers. It was the first in China to offer assured renewal for 6 years, with protection of up to RMB 4 million ($550,000).

Haoyibao has evolved over time to cover an array of medical ailments and serves a diverse consumer base in China. Millions of individuals have benefited from this health insurance product, as its comprehensive coverage provides a simpler way to manage rising healthcare expenditures.

Ant Insurance's AI-driven strategy aligns with Ant Group's drive to transform China's healthcare sector. For instance, Ant Group's Alipay has streamlined medical access for over 800 million customers in 3,600 hospitals by simplifying doctor appointments, accelerating payments, and simplifying access to medical records.

As the global healthcare and insurance landscape changes, Ant Group is leveraging AI to rewrite the rules. Its AI solutions, such as GoldenChoice, EasyClaims, Ant Bridge, and Haoyibao, are making insurance claims processing more advanced, quicker, and tailored than ever.

With Ant Group leading the push, its rippling effects will extend well beyond China. Do you think AI will help revolutionize healthcare and insurance in the near future?
