On one side, business leaders are concerned about the rapid adoption of AI in cyber-attacks. Johan Gerber, Executive Vice President of Security and Cyber Innovation at MasterCard, warns, “AI is already being used by criminals to overcome some of the world’s cybersecurity measures. But AI has to be part of our future, of how we attack and address cybersecurity.”
Natural language generation techniques are AI and ML-based methods used by cybercriminal gangs and nation–states routinely to attack multinational companies through multilingual phishing. AI and ML are comprehensively used to improve malware, making it undetectable by legacy endpoint protection systems. #TheDeadlyDuo
The other part of the story is that – leaders also believe that the only way to combat AI-empowered attacks is through AI itself. There are no two ways that AI is the backbone of innovation! Everything can advantage enterprises, from innovating faster to recruiting talent to altering attack strategies in real-time. #RiseWithTheRiseOfTheAI
In the words of Max Heinemeyer, Director of Threat Hunting at Darktrace, “Businesses must implement cyber-AI for defense before offensive AI becomes mainstream. When it becomes a war of algorithms against algorithms, only autonomous response will be able to fight back at machine speeds to stop AI-augmented attacks.” Besides, in a recent survey by the Economist Intelligent Unit (EIU), nearly half of the respondents (48.9%) cited that AI and ML would be best implemented to counter nation-state cyberattacks directed toward private organizations.
Gartner’s report has clearly revealed that AI is a powerful weapon, which can be deadly in the wrong hands. While the report says that businesses are not prepared for the attacks yet – leaders do seem optimistic about the potential of AI. All they need to do is to buckle up their preparations for the AI war!
