The cutting-edge AI tools are supposed to revolutionize tasks, enhance efficiency and boost productivity. However, not everyone praises their experiences with these futuristic technologies; for instance, according to a recent study some workers have claimed AI has "almost doubled our workload."

The study highlights an example of Neil Clarke, an editor and publisher of the science fiction and fantasy magazine Clarkesworld. Instead of the streamlined workflow he expected, Neil found himself facing an unexpected challenge. "They're some of the worst stories we've seen, actually," Clarke said of the hundreds of pieces of AI-produced content he and his team of humans must manually parse through. "But it's more of the problem of volume, not quality. The quantity is burying us." Clarke continued.

Clarke further described AI tools as "a thorn in our side for the last few months," which has "almost doubled our workload." Not just that but he anticipated his team is going to have to be close submissions again, "It's going to reach a point where we can't handle it."

• Ivana Saula, the research director for the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, points out that these tech tools often create extra "residual tasks" that humans still have to handle. • Saula further said that after implementing new AI tools, workers are also "saying that my workload is heavier" and "the intensity at which I work is much faster because now it's being set by the machine."
