There’s no surprise that Cannes Film Festival dazzles with elegance and sophistication where celebrities and industry insiders gather to showcase their fashion prowess. From red-carpet moments to exclusive parties, the Cannes Film Festival exudes an undeniable aura of glamour that captivates the world! However, to everyone’s surprise, in the world of glitz and glamor, Artificial Intelligence (AI) got the bigger spotlight.

According to a recent report, legendary actor Sean Penn voiced his support for striking writers. With the Writers Guild of America pushing to restrict the use of AI in scriptwriting, Penn didn't hold back, labeling the studios' rejection of this demand a "human obscenity."

During a press conference, Penn expressed concern about the industry's resistance to embracing AI. "There are a lot of new concepts that are being tossed about, you know, including the use of AI," Penn said at a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival. “And this just strikes me as a kind of human obscenity, for there to be any pushback on that from the producers," he continued.

"It's difficult ... for so many people, so many writers and so many people in the industry, to not be able to work during this time," added Penn. "And I guess it's gonna soul-search itself and see which side toughs it out."

On the other hand, there are those in the industry who see the potential of AI as a creative tool rather than a threat.

Helena Packer, the senior vice president and general manager of DGene, a company specializing in AI technology, believes that AI can unlock new possibilities for artistic expression. "AI is a tool that's going to help people express themselves in ways they've been stifled until now," she said. She further said she sees AI as a tool that can help people break free from creative constraints that have held them back until now. It's like a digital muse, empowering artists in unprecedented ways.

Besides, Tom Graham, CEO of Metaphysic, emphasizes that AI can achieve a hyper-realistic look without crossing the uncanny valley into the realm of weirdness or CGI. "We can actually do things with AI that are impossible with traditional methods to get that really hyper-realistic look, that doesn't look uncanny, doesn't look weird, and doesn't look CGI," says Graham.

Nevertheless, this innovative technique will not only save money as compared to traditional visual effects but will also produce remarkably realistic results.
