Production facility in Silver Springs, Nevada is the first zero-landfill photovoltaic recycling center

VIRGINIA CITY, Nev., April 26, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Comstock Inc. (NYSE: LODE) (“Comstock”) today announced Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) toured Comstock Metals’ first solar panel recycling facility in Silver Springs, Nevada to highlight the state’s growing clean energy economy and strong job growth in the region.

Comstock’s recently commissioned production facility is one of the only sites in the Western U.S. that specializes in recycling and processing solar panels that have reached the end of their useful life and has committed to a zero-landfill solution by reusing all of the recycled materials. Comstock’s proprietary recycling process not only creates a circular supply chain solution for these materials, but it also reduces the environmental impact of landfilling solar panels. The EPA estimates that by 2030, there will be one million tons per year of solar waste that will need to be recycled or sent to a landfill – so this facility meets a timely need.

Dr. Fortunato Villamagna, President of Comstock Metals, concluded, “With a significant amount of solar PV waste from decommissioned solar panels ending up in landfills, plastic laminates from solar cells, VOC contaminates, and heavy metals are potent greenhouse gas and water leachate generating materials that pose critical threats to human health.”
