KYOTO, Japan--( BUSINESS WIRE )--Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (TOKYO: 6981) (ISIN: JP3914400001) today introduced its groundbreaking Module Type 2GT, a low-power multi-band radio (LoRa ® ) module that represents a significant step forward in the development of IoT devices that require versatile wireless connectivity. In particular, the highly integrated module offers a comprehensive solution that meets the complex requirements of global certification standards and facilitates seamless use in different regions and industries.
The Type 2GT module measures 9.98 x 8.70 x 1.74 mm and is located on a PCB in a metal case, packaged as a land grid array. The module's technical prowess is demonstrated by its use of Semtech's advanced LR1121 RF transceiver IC, a thermally compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO), a second 32KHz crystal, an RF switch and an RF matching network. These components ensure high frequency accuracy and reliable performance in different environmental conditions. For device developers, this means simpler and smaller PCB designs, reduced time to market and lower development costs, particularly thanks to the easy integration of the module and a streamlined certification process.
The Type 2GT supports multiple frequency bands—including sub-GHz bands, the 2.4GHz ISM band, and the 2.1GHz satellite communications S band. This underlines the flexibility and scalability that meets the needs of diverse IoT applications, such as smart agriculture, industrial and environmental sensors, building and household automation. Other markets that could benefit from the module's features include product tracking, utility smart metering, remote control toys and drones. Support for the 2.4GHz ISM band enables higher data rates, more frequent channel scheduling around the world, and also allows developers to avoid the duty cycle limitations imposed by European standards for sub-GHz communications.
“We are very pleased about Murata's strategic expansion with the state-of-the-art third generation multi-band LoRa ® modules,” said Carlo Tinella, Senior Product Marketing Manager at Semtech. “This advancement provides the industry with a game-changing tool to streamline and secure the development process for applications operating at sub-GHz and 2.4GHz LoRa ® frequencies. Murata’s commitment to reducing design complexity and certification challenges enables developers worldwide to create fast and versatile IoT solutions for everything from smart agriculture to urban infrastructure.”
Murata's Type 2GT module has European CE marking and American FCC standard, Japanese TELEC standard and Canadian IC standard certification, allowing designers to resubmit the module's RF test reports to various certification authorities can.
This will significantly reduce compliance barriers and promote innovation across the IoT ecosystem for the benefit of users in numerous regions.
Developers, partners and innovators are welcome to explore the potential of the Type 2GT module. Together we can harness the power of LoRa ® technology to create IoT solutions that are not only smart and efficient, but also accessible and sustainable. Murata is committed to working with our partners to continue to push the boundaries of what is possible and make the world more connected, smarter and more environmentally conscious.
Samples are available now, and mass production is scheduled to begin in late March 2024. For more information about Murata's Type 2GT module, visit the product details page .
