What Is False Positive?
When you think something is true but not true, similarly, when you think that something is false, it's not false. Then who will tell you if you are correct or not? Well, we have an answer. Just read on! In programming and computer science, a false positive occurs when an error is identified as legitimate when it's illegitimate. A false positive occurs when a program mistakenly identifies something as being spam when it's not. This could mean that an email that your mom sent gets deleted or moved to a special folder because the program thinks it's spam. It could also mean that a text message from your best friend gets classified as spam, which would be pretty embarrassing! A false positive is the opposite of a true negative a true negative means that the program correctly identifies something as not being spam. A false negative is the opposite of a false positive. False positives are like when you accidentally tell someone that you love them. It's not true, but it's not false, either. False positives happen when you say something that's not exactly the truth but also isn't false. So, let's say you're looking for your phone in your bag and find it there, but it turns out to be someone else's phone. That would be a false positive. You said your phone was in your bag, but it wasn't your phone. Another example is when a spam filter identifies an email as spam but then sends it back to the sender as bounced mail. This is a false positive because the message isn't spamming. It just got bounced because of how the filter works. A false positive is when you notice something that isn't there, and a false negative is when you don't see something there.
