Production Grade

They use hardware-based switching techniques to connect and transmit data in a local network (LAN). What is a MAC Address? Well, it's like a phone number for your computer, a unique identifier that lets other computers remember who you are and how to get in touch with you when they want to send you a message. And if someone tries to email you but doesn't have your phone number, it will get lost in space forever! A layer two switch is like a brilliant friend. It knows all the good gossip and is always willing to share it. Let's back up briefly—what precisely is a layer two switch? Layer 2 switches do what they say on the tin. They switch data at the OSI model's second layer (with the seven layers). So what does that mean? These switches are responsible for transporting data on a physical layer and checking errors on each transmitted and received frame. A layer two switch requires the MAC address of the NIC on each network node to share data. A layer two switch can forward frames to the appropriate destination node by recording the MAC addresses of frames it receives or listens for. Layer two switches (3,4 and beyond) can send packets faster to their destinations than other layer switches because they automatically record the MAC addresses of frames they receive. However, layer two switches (as with other layer switches) cannot send packets based on IP addresses. They need a mechanism for prioritizing packets based on their source or destination applications.
