Traditional macrocell sites are currently undergoing a makeover, thanks to the on-going cloud RAN transformation. Cloud platforms, such as Red Hat® OpenShift®, are fast becoming an integral part of a cloud-RAN era cell site. But how do you integrate this cloud platform at a telco cell site? Do you simply remove the baseband unit (BBU) and drop the cloud platform with RAN software in its place? When is that a feasible option and when is it not? What are some of the factors you need to consider before designing cloud RAN cell sites with Red Hat OpenShift? This session will explore practical ways of designing a cell site with Red Hat OpenShift and discuss how to connect and integrate the compute server (for cloud platform) at the cell site.
